In this video I get my hands on the Platform Basket Spider 2095 thanks to the team at Promax Access in Barnsley and instead of just poking around in a yard, I take it straight out on real jobs to see what it’s actually like to live with.
Over the course of several days, I put the 2095 through its paces on a variety of sites, including:
- 🏫 Nottingham High School – threading through an archway and reaching awkward lead work at height
- 🎓 Trent College – checking bird spikes on the clock tower and squeezing through tight access routes
- ⛪ A church survey in Warwick – tracking along narrow paths and setting up on restricted ground
- 🏠 Gutter clearing – testing how usable the outreach and boom geometry really are at working height
Along the way, I talk honestly about what I liked and what I didn’t like about the Spider 2095, including:
✅ Pros:
- Seriously solid build quality – thick steel outriggers and a basket that feels rock-steady even at full stretch
- Huge, spacious basket – plenty of room for two people, tools, and materials
- Easy basket removal – light enough to move around on your own, quick to attach/detach
- Fast outriggers & setup time – ideal when you want to get in, get the job done, and move on
- Compact access – can squeeze through gaps as narrow as 800mm and still reach around 20m working height
- No external pipes on the boom – a big plus when working near trees or tight structures
- Ability to tow it on a trailer behind a truck, so no specialist transport or low loader needed
⚠️ Cons & annoyances:
- Outreach limitations, especially at lower levels – and why, for me, outreach is king
- The behaviour of the first riser boom and how it affects your working position
- Having to manually switch controls between ground and basket with a key
- The excessively loud beeper and fussy covers that get in the way on site
I also show off one of the coolest features I’ve ever seen on a cherry picker, a very handy “home” function and explain where I think this machine shines, and where it falls short, from the perspective of someone who uses spider lifts day in, day out for roofing, guttering, inspections and awkward high-access jobs.
